About Sartastic.com

What's with the name?

When I was looking for domain names I made a typo checking "Sarcastic.com". Really. "Sarcastic.com" wasn't available anyway, and I liked the sound of "Sartastic.com". A new site was born. As for the "Fracture's Compound" part, that's from my old computer days. Way back when all the cool kids had a 300 baud modem (a small mp3 would have taken nearly two days to download), I went by the name "Compound Fracture".

Do you have a mobile version?

Yes. (And by yes I mean no. My mobile site is installed and configured, but doesn't play nice with my cache. An upcoming upgrade promised to resolve this). You should be directed automatically if you come here using a mobile browser. Leave me a message if it's not working for you. There is also a link at the bottom of each mobile format page that will take you to the full version of the site.

Where did you get the banner picture?

It depends. I change it quite a bit. Look just below the banner on the right for an attribution link. Otherwise, my standard banner is the view from my office in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The red maple leaf is a public domain image.

How do I set up an account?

You don't, really. I disabled accounts. There's not much to gain from having one other than not having to enter the reCAPTCHA when leaving comments. Even that is just replaced with having to log in. If you want an avatar next to your comments, check out Gravatar. I support that.

If you still want one, leave a comment.

My comment never showed up!

Sorry about that. One of the tubes must be plugged. A line of code somewhere must have decided you were a spammer. Hopefully I'll spot it in my spam folder and bring it back. If you want to, you can try contacting me directly. Check the About Me page for contact information.

Can I post something on your blog?

I do have the option of setting up accounts that can do that. If there is interest, I might spend some time working out the details. No promises. Setting up an account isn't the only way to get a guest post going, of course. Leave a comment, and we'll talk.

How did you do that cool thing?

Leave a comment and ask. I'll be happy to fill you in.

Do you like WordPress?

It's fine for what I need it for. Any problems I've had, someone else has also had and documented a solution. Anything I've wanted to fix or tune has been a quick Google query away. At least so far.

No ads?

I'll need way more regulars before I'd find it worth the trouble to mess with them. If you're like me, you'd probably just block them, anyway. If I do start displaying ads and you want to block them, I officially don't care.

Your pingbacks aren't working!

I've turned off pingbacks and trackbacks. Blame spam. We can't have anything nice without being reminded our penis needs to be 14 inches long, can we? If you want to take the time to mention your work the old fashioned way (by leaving a comment), please do.

Dood! Let's exchange links!

Dood! Let's not!

Besides, I'm not exactly a thriving hub as far as search engines are concerned.

If you're leaving productive comments with a valid domain name, people will see the link. It also shows up on the right on the "recent comments" widget. If I like your site, it won't be long before I add it to my full blogroll or even the top picks I show on the left. Until something makes me decide otherwise, I don't use rel="nofollow", either.

Who's your hosting provider?

http://namecheap.com did my domain registration and provides my host. That's an affiliate link. I get a pittance of a kick-back if you use it. Type the URL in yourself if you don't want to do that.

So far, so good for what I need. I've used their "live chat" support for two minor issues. Both were resolved quickly and politely. Their price is really good, and I like their self serve features.

I use their most basic (read cheapest) hosting package, and I find it generous enough. At that level, though, if you get hit with a Digg flood or something similar that pushes you over the limit, your only option is to wait for the next month for your site to come back, or pay for the next service level for a month.

I'm ok with that. This is a casual hobby and a time killer for me, not a money maker.
